In June 2019, the Government of Kenya through the Central Bank of Kenya announced that the KES 1,000 note will be replaced by October 1, 2019. It was the view of the Central Bank that a four month lead time is adequate to allow people with limited access to banks especially in the rural areas to hand in their old generation notes.
In compliance with this directive, banks has adopted and rolled out the new notes across our entire branch and ATM network in light of the 31st May 2019 Gazette Notice that the old generation KES 1,000 notes shall cease to be legal tender on the 1st of October 2019.
It is important to note that the 1st October 2019 cut-over date will not be extended. Therefore you are advised to visit any of our branches across the country and exchange the old generation KES 1,000 shillings notes on or before 30th September 2019, 4:30pm to avoid any inconvenience after the deadline.
You are also advised to inform the people within your network of the same to avoid loss of money.
